Morgan Motors, a family owned car manufacturer, has teamed up with retailer Selfridges to showcase a world’s first, zero emissions 3-wheeler which will go on sale this November on the shop floor.
The waiting list for the car, which will vie for shoppers’ attention alongside world class luxury fashion brands, is already six months, but this is not a surprise to enthusiasts – affectionately known as ‘moggies’ – who have been known to happily sit on a wait list for as long as 10 years in the past.
The two-seater bespoke sports car will cost £52,500 and the collaboration with Selfridges is part of a campaign to raise awareness of craftsmanship within British manufacturing and sustainability.
The car has been named the UK 1909 Edition – referencing the date both Selfridges and Morgan were founded – and there will only be 19 available to buy through the store with a replica displayed in the ground floor, revamped accessories department and a running prototype will be available to test drive.
With a charge time of four hours and an expected range of 150 miles, the 1909 has a top speed of 90mph and comes in jet black with a Selfridges’ bronze detailing.
The limited edition car is a custom made version of Morgan’s all-electric EV3, which was revealed this March at the Geneva motor show this year.
