1. Get yourself a scrap quote

2. Get your documents together
If you’ve got your V5C logbook or SORN then now is the time to dig it out. You don’t need a lot of documents when it comes to scrapping your car, but you definitely need your V5C, that one is a must! As you might already know, this proves your ownership of your car and there is also a section that you need to fill in to say that your car has been scrapped. When someone comes to collect your car, make sure that you hand this over too so that your chosen buyer can deal with the rest.

3. Wait for your Certificate of Destruction
There’s no need to worry about your Certificate of Destruction. You’ll receive this from your chosen car buyer once your car has been transferred to the Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) that they will use to scrap your car. This just tells the DVLA that your car no longer needs to be taxed.
That’s about it really when it comes to scrapping your car. Once your car is at the ATF, what generally tends to happen is that they will remove any hazardous parts such as fuel, oil and battery acid. Then it’s on to recyclable parts such as rubber, glass and metal as well as the bigger things too like tyres, windows and windscreens.
Finally, the only thing left to do is crush the shell of your car until it can’t be crushed anymore. It can be a sad time as most of us like to treat our cars as part of the family, so having them crushed can leave us with a tear in our eyes.
