The best convertibles of 2021

Looking for an open-top car to have fun with? Whether you want the roof up or down, check out our list of best convertibles for 2021 here.

The best convertibles these days are the ones that come with four seats and can provide you with driving fun, whether it’s rain or shine. They might not be the most popular body style these days, but they should be!

These are just some of our best convertibles of this year so far.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

We’re kicking it off with the large and comfortable Mercedes staple, the E-Class Cabriolet. Mercedes just know how it’s done with their cruiser cabriolets. They’re well-equipped to do well on this list and they’re a beast of a machine, to be honest. Charming to look at and a range of torque-rich petrol and diesel engines on offer, what’s not to love? Oh, and did we mention that many of these feature mild-hybrid techs too! It doesn’t get much better for a cabriolet. Coming in at around £50k brand new, it might set you back a bit, but you could breakneck speeds with this.

Mini Convertible

If an engineered soft-top is what you’re after then you’ll definitely want to be blessed with this Mini Convertible. Available in Cooper, Cooper S and Cooper Works, you’ve got the pick of the bunch and the open-top and speed is a bonus! Sporty and tight, its gorgeous, reshaped grille will give people something to look at, along with its zesty petrol engine. When it comes to personalisation, you can let your imagination run wild. Be free and make your mini yours. The sky is your limit, well your budget is really, but hey ho, you get the drift.

BMW 4 Series Convertible

Shimming its way to the front and one of the newest drop-tops on the block, say hello to the BMW 4 Series Convertible.

With a whopping double-kidney grille and a lighter soft-top roof, it’s stylish and even manages to nail the convertible brief on the head. Don’t worry its metal folding roof won’t hit you on the head, it got a pretty restful roof-down experience actually.

Featuring wind-blocker and side windows up, along with a comfortable ride, it’s got a lot going for it that many rivals haven’t. Desirable, high quality and powerful, its tech-laden interior is just something else. There’s even room for four adults, as well as a usefully sized boot, what’s not to love. The price isn’t too bad either, only around £45,000 brand new.

Mazda MX-5

If it’s a flavour you’re after, then look no further as the Mazda MX-5 has more than one. The two-seater soft-top has a decent price tag, around £24,000, compared to the heavier price of the MX-5 RF.

With a nippy petrol engine, not turbocharged, unfortunately, just means you’ll have to work that delicious gearbox a little bit more. A performance like no other, it’s like that old-school sports car that you’ve always wanted.

Its handling is on point, which makes it easier for whoever is behind the wheel, skill or no skill, you’re going to be sorted. Enjoy this one while it lasts as you never know when you might see it again.

given the shrinking demand for roadsters, we may never see it like again.

Porsche 718 Boxster

Are you a Porsche loyalist? If so, then you’ll probably already know that the 718 Boxster lost some of its magic when the old six-cylinder was given a facelift, renamed and fitted with four-cylinder engines.

We’re sure that these latest models will give you that buzz that you’ve been looking for. Fast and efficient, they’re so engaging to drive and built like you wouldn’t believe. Quality is stunning and it’s fair to say Porsche’s two-seater roadster is an excellent choice if you’re looking for something long term.

Optional extras we hear you say? Our advice would be to go easy on these unless you want a very expensive breed of the Porsche.

All in all, the 718 Boxster is quite easily one of the best cars on sale full stop, let alone one of the best convertibles of this year too.

We think we can all agree that drop-tops are nippy little powertrains, that might be a pain when it comes to washing, but that’s only a small price to pay when you can have that big grin on your face when you’re behind the wheel.

Fancy getting to know what it’s like to have that cheesy grin on your face? Soon it will be the perfect time to buy a convertible when sales are the slowest and the weather is at its worst. Don’t go thinking it will be too hard to get rid of your current car either, we’re the experts at that.
